Celebrating Five Years of Dynamic Music Studios: Music, Community, and Growth

Five years ago, Dynamic Music Studios began with a simple but meaningful goal: to create a welcoming space where students of all ages and skill levels could grow through music, feel supported in their learning, and discover the joy of making music in a community.

Today, as we celebrate five years of business, we are incredibly proud not only of the musical accomplishments of our students, but also of the ways our studio has become connected to the larger Coralville and Iowa City community. Music education has always been about more than learning notes and technique. It is about building confidence, developing creativity, and learning how to contribute meaningfully to the world around us.

Over the past five years, Dynamic Music Studios has had the privilege of providing lessons to more than 370 students, each bringing their own personality, goals, and musical journey into our space. From young beginners to adult learners returning to music later in life, every student has helped shape the studio into what it is today: a place where learning is encouraged, individuality is respected, and progress is celebrated.

Growing Through Community Giving

One of the traditions we are especially proud of is our annual Practice-A-Thon, where students combine musical dedication with community impact. What began as a creative way to motivate practice has grown into one of the studio’s most meaningful yearly projects.

Through the Practice-A-Thon, our students have raised funds for both studio growth and local organizations:

2022: Raised funds for signage for our facility

2023: Supported United Action for Youth and a mural painting project, raising over $900

2024: Raised over $700 for Safe Haven of Iowa County

2025: Raised over $800 for Guitars4Vets

2026: Supporting Family Folk Machine

These experiences teach students that music can be a powerful way to give back. When students see their practicing directly helping others, the purpose behind their work becomes even more meaningful.

Performance Experiences That Create Lasting Memories

At Dynamic Music Studios, we believe performance opportunities should be inspiring, creative, and memorable.

Over the years, students have participated in five Fall-O-Ween Recitals, a favorite annual tradition that combines music, creativity, and seasonal fun while also collecting non-perishable donations for the community just before the holidays.

We have also created unique recital experiences such as our recital at Prairie Patch Farm, where students performed alongside llamas, an unforgettable setting that made music-making feel joyful and adventurous.

Our students have also had opportunities to perform throughout the community, including:

  • Iowa State Fair

  • Johnson County Fair

  • Light Up Oxford

  • Make Music Day through porch performances

  • A special performance for animals at Safe Haven of Iowa County following our Practice-A-Thon

  • A community performance at Dunn Brothers Coffee alongside Guitars4Vets

These performances help students build confidence while learning that music belongs everywhere, in concert spaces, coffee shops, farms, community celebrations, and places where connection matters.

Being Present in Our Community

Dynamic Music Studios has also made community involvement a priority beyond

performances.

We have proudly participated in:

  • Coralville 4thFest Parade

  • Coralville Trunk-Or-Treat in 2024

And each winter, we organize a clothing drive to support local families:

  • In 2023, our first drive collected over 50 coats for North Liberty Community Pantry

  • In 2024, we expanded to coats and winter clothing

  • In 2025, we continued growing this tradition and look forward to carrying it forward for years to come

These efforts remind students that being part of a music studio also means being part of a caring community.

Learning Beyond Private Lessons

While private lessons are at the heart of what we do, Dynamic Music Studios also offers Community group classes that allow students to explore music in broader ways.

These classes have included:

  • Musician Wellness

  • Music Theory

  • Sing-A-Longs

  • Music History

  • Improvisation

  • Conducting

  • Chamber Music

  • Audition Preparation

  • Performance Anxiety Support

These classes give students tools that reach far beyond their instrument. They help students become thoughtful musicians, confident performers, and creative thinkers.

Looking Ahead

Five years in, what continues to matter most is creating a space where students feel welcome, supported, and INSPIRED regardless if they are taking their very first lesson or continuing years of musical study.

Dynamic Music Studios remains committed to being a place where music education is personal, encouraging, and connected to the world around us. The relationships built here, the service projects completed together, and the performances shared in our community all contribute to an experience that shapes students in lasting ways.

We are grateful to every student, family, teacher, and community partner who has helped make these five years possible. We are excited for everything still to come.

Here’s to the next chapter!
