Margaret is a Cello Student of Christina Gentzsch at Dynamic Music Studios in Coralville, Iowa.

How old are you? 82
Why did you decide to start lessons? Because I always wanted to. I was driving past West Music and they had a special deal with Instrument rentals and lessons. I was getting close to retirement, so I thought “what the heck” and I started. Then I had such a great time with Christina so I bought my own cello and kept up with it. I stick with it for mental exercise and to torment my husband and my dog.
How long have you been taking lessons? A little over 12 years
Do you play any other instruments? Piano, bells, and I sing in church choir.
How often do you practice? About every other day.
What is one of your favorite pieces you have learned so far? Right now it's Bourrée by William Squire. It's a really good exercise for my brain.
What advice do you have for other musicians studying your instrument? Stick with it because it's something you can enjoy your whole life. It's a way to be together with people. It also helps you appreciate music and musicians much more.
What do you enjoy about lessons? It's fun to be with Christina!
What do you like about Dynamic Music Studios? It's a very welcoming and conducive environment for learning. It also smells good when you come in. I also get to play with Christina's dog Ginger when she comes in.
What goals do you have for lessons? Keep improving.
What is your favorite musical/orchestral work/piano piece/artist/favorite song? My favorite composer is J.S. Bach, but my favorite genre is jazz. Even though they’re from completely different times, I love how they connect and share similar qualities..
What hobbies do you have outside of cello lessons? I do straw bale gardening, sudoku, dog walking, knitting, cooking, and church activities.
